Old World Artisanry

scottWhen I was a kid, my uncle restored an old antique roll top desk that he got from the railroad where he worked. He did a beautiful job, using golden oak and an antique green on the desk. Between that and my dad building our family cabin, I had the desire to build things even when I was ten.

I built my first walnut desk, patterning it after my uncle’s roll top, when I was 17 with an orbital sander and a shop smith and I still have it today.

After graduating high school, I worked as a fire sprinkler engineering technician for nine years while I was buying tools, waiting for the right moment to open my business. In 1989, I quit my job and started working full time in woodwork. While it was a scary time, the first year I was in business, it was also invigorating to finally do what I really loved. I worked out of my basement for a while until I built a large shop at my home. I have worked with professional interior designers over the years, and have recently started working with clients more directly one on one.

My process is first drawing the piece, making sure it is what the client wants. I love the differences that can be in projects. Everyone and every piece is different and I love the challenges of making things artistic and creative. I then construct it, taking time with every detail and carving. Once finished, I deliver it and install it with minimal or no onsite finishing required. This creates enjoyable engineering challenges, which make each piece more custom and unique.

I have been in business 25 years, creating beautiful customized woodwork. I love every part of the construction process, but the best part of it is giving each client something that can be cherished and loved forever.
